What is ammolite?
Ammolite is the fossilized shell of an extinct marine mollusk called ammonite, which is over 70 million years old. These fossils have been transformed over time into a precious stone with characteristic iridescent colors. It is an organic gem, similar to amber or pearl. Due to its iridescence (color shift, similar to opal), it is often treated as a gemstone and used in jewelry. Its characteristic iridescent colors change beautifully depending on the light (from red, green, blue, to purple).
It is found almost exclusively in Canada.
Although it is not a mineral or a crystal, it is used in spiritual and energy practices similar to crystals. It is often attributed with properties of protection, harmony, vitality and transformation, because it carries the energy of the Earth and oceans from ancient times.
